Quadruple Group One winner retired

QUADRUPLE Group One winner Maajida has been retired.

Believing the time is right for the five-year-old to enter the next stage of her career, connections have decided to send Maajida to stud.

As such Maajida will be given time to ‘let down’ before a suitable stallion is selected.

Trained throughout her career by premier horsewoman Emma Stewart, Maajida heads to the breeding barn with 24 wins, seven seconds and a third from 44 starts.

With a bankroll of $684,518 she is Somebeachsomewhere’s richest daughter!

Last December Maajida created history by becoming the first pacing mare to complete a clean sweep of the two, three and four-year-old Vicbred Finals.

Rating 1:53.5 over 2240 metres, Maajida joined Colbruce as the only pacers to win the three Finals.

The son of Muckalee Strike scored at two in 1996, before being successful as a three-year-old in May 1997 and at four in December ’97.

“Sadly we are saying ‘farewell’ to one of the modern day star mares Maajida, or Jane as we knew her around the stable” Stewart said.

“She’s been one of the greatest mares we’ve had the privilege to care for and we can’t wait to see her offspring.

“We can’t thank the Johnsons at Atworthy Park enough for allowing us to oversee her racing career and wish them all the best with her foals.”
