QUALITY South Australian mare Dancing Finn “deserves a crack” at breaking her ‘metro’ maiden according to trainer Lance Holberton.

As such, the daughter of A Rocknroll Dance is heading to Tabcorp Park Melton for Saturday night’s sensational program, which is highlighted by the time-honoured A G Hunter Cup.

Winner of her last four starts, and unbeaten from three outings this season, Dancing Finn will contest the opening event on the card – the Mimosa Homes Pace.

“She has been going great and deserves a crack at a metro win,” Holberton said. “She’s won her last three against reasonable company in Mildura and is ready to step up in grade.

“I nominated her for the Group One, but she missed a start and is the emergency, so she’s going around in what you could call the Consolation.

“We will leave home in the early hours of Friday morning which will give her plenty of time to settle in where Josh Dickie is stabled in Melton.

“I’ll make the trip over but will fly straight back home as I’ve got her half-brother, Regal Scribe, racing at Globe Derby on Sunday.

“My wife Mary will stay with her, but how long Finn stays in Melbourne I haven’t decided…we’ll see how she goes on the weekend.”

To be driven by Dickie, Dancing Finn faces a difficult task from barrier nine.

Ironically, the five-year-old has also drawn nine in the Ladyship Cup should she gain a start as a result of a scratching.

“She has drawn badly in both, but I’d still rather be in the big one,” Holberton said. “She’s going to need luck from there.

“It will come down to the kind of run she gets on the night, but I’ve got no doubt she will be competitive.”
