Queen safely perched on her throne
AFTER an uncharacteristic lull cost her the top spot, Danni Hill has repositioned herself on her throne.
Queen of South Australian racing for the better part of the past decade, Hill experienced a recent quiet period, which saw her brother Wayne take the lead in the Drivers’ Premiership.
Quartets at the past two Globe Derby meetings, however, have not only helped Hill reclaim the number one position they have seen her open a gap on her sibling.
Hill’s tally sits on 109 win, four ahead of Wayne, with Ryan Hryhorec third on 82.
Last season Hill secured the premier despite being sidelined for five months after breaking her tibial plateau – which required 12 pins, two plates and a screw to hold the ligament onto knee cap – in a race fall on February 9.
“I had a bit of a quiet period where nothing seemed to go right,” Hill said. “A few weeks ago for example I thought I had a reasonable card of drives and nothing went my way.
“Things have turned around during the last week or so and I’ve been lucky to get some wins on the board.
“I’m very fortunate that I drive for some of the leading stables around and when they are going well so am I.”
Hill hopes to carry that form into tonight’s program, where she has drives in each of the eight Globe Derby races.
Fittingly one of her drives is behind The Queen Of Heart, which is a $1.75 favourite despite a tough draw.
Scoring first-up from a five-month break in what was also her maiden start for trainer Gary Hill last week, The Queen Of Heart will begin from the inside of the second line.
“I’ve got some good drives again tonight so hopefully I can keep the ball rolling,” Hill said.
“A few will need a bit of luck, including The Queen Of Heart, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
