Retirement postponed after feature win

RETIREMENT plans with Majestic Summer have been put on hold…again!

While discussing the mare’s future, trainer Ryan Hryhorec revealed Majestic Summer had appeared to reach the end several times, only to have her career extended after a win, with the latest reprieve coming at Globe Derby last night.

Thanks to her success in The Pride Of Petite, Majestic Summer will continue to race throughout September.

“We’ve looked to retire her twice this preparation and then she’s won, so we’ve kept her going,” Hryhorec said. “After last night she has earned another extension, but the end is near.

“I’m not sure how much longer Michael (Taylor, owner) will keep her going, but retirement isn’t far off.

“For that reason, I haven’t really set any long term targets for her and will just keep chopping away and see how she keeps going.”

With Dani Hill holding the reins, Majestic Summer began well from the tapes to gain the perfect trail behind the leader, Feel The Moment.

Angled away from the pegs at the top of the home straight, Majestic Summer sprinted to a six-and-a-half metre win from the frontrunner, with Ima Destroyer nine-and-a-half metres away third.

“She has been going well, but I still wasn’t overly confident with her as it was a rise in class,” Hryhorec said. “She got the perfect run and was able to make the most of it, which was pleasing to see.”
