Starting odds not a concern!

HE’S a last start winner, which is racing consistently and is drawn to search for a forward position, yet at Globe Derby tomorrow, Star Man is listed as the rank outsider!

Engaged in one of three Four and Five-Year-Old Classic heats, Star Man heads into the qualifier fresh from his victory at the same venue last Monday.

The son of Major Secret’s form includes a pair of wins, three placings and three fourths from his last 10 starts.

Then there is the draw, with Star Man to come from barrier four in a field of seven, yet early markets have the gelding listed at $26!

At the opposite end of the scale, Harro Hill is a $1.40 favourite from gate five based on his two wins and a third from four outings this campaign.

According to trainer John Conry, however, the statistics are of “no concern once the field is in action.”

“I think he should be shorter,” Conry said. “His form reads better than his odds suggest.

“That’s okay though as it means no one will be paying attention to him.

“What I can say with confidence is he has pulled up a treat from his win, is feeling terrific and is ready to run a decent race.”

Citing Harro Hill as the “clear one to beat”, Conry is also wary of Keto from barrier five.

“Ryan (Hryhorec) has Harro Hill going great,” Conry said. “Keto is having his first start for Ryan, but he’s sure to be ready for this.”
