NEW South Wales-based couple Anthony Butt and Sonya Smith are set to embark on a Victorian campaign.
Scheduled to cross the border on Wednesday, the pair plan to spend two months interstate.
Bringing a team of 12 trotters and pacers, Butt and Smith will target keys majors such as the Victoria Trotters’ Derby and Breeders’ Crown.
Smith’s squad consists of feature winners Dr Susan and Make Way.
Dr Susan is no stranger to Group One success in the state having captured the Victoria Oaks earlier in the season.
Butt’s bunch will be headed by Wolf Stride and Elite Stride, which is likely to be first-up in The Holmfield at Tabcorp Park Melton in a fortnight.
Elite Stride made his racing debut in Melton last January when triumphant with Butt in the cart.
Sent for a spell last May, the son of Muscle Hill has built a record of eight wins and a second from nine starts.
“We are taking a 12 horses down and will be there for a couple of months,” Butt said. “There are a number of good races coming up so we decided to head down with the horses.
“Our stable will keep ticking over at home for races such as the Breeders’ Challenge it’s just that I won’t be there for the drives.
“It would be nice to go back and forth like previous trips, but it’s not possible given the world we live in at the moment.”
