USA on the cards after 1:50 win

PLANS remain uncertain with last night’s Club Menangle winner Ilikemebettor.

That’s not to say trainer Belinda McCarthy doesn’t have faith in the four-year-old.

Ilikemebettor’s limited schedule stems from the prospect of the entire being sold to overseas interests.

While she has no doubt Ilikemebettor can continue his way through the grades, McCarthy believes the pacer’s future lies in America.

“He is the kind of horse which would be perfect in America,” McCarthy said. “I haven’t discussed it with his owners, but it’s the way I see him heading.

“For now he’ll keep climbing the national ranking system as we find suitable races for him.”

Driven by Jack Callaghan, Ilikemebettor worked forward from barrier 10 to find the lead as early pacemaker, Rossini, was eased to take a trail.

Striding clear during the latter stages, the son of Bettors Delight was untouched to score by nine-and-a-half metres from Louis Litt.

Lochiel was four-and-a-half metres away third.

Covering the mile in 1:50, Ilikemebettor took his record to six wins and 11 placings from 24 starts for earnings of $98,508.

“We knew he was ready to run a big race and he didn’t let us down,” McCarthy said. “He was runner-up in his heat, which was his third run back from a break, so he was right at his peak for the Final.

“After he got the front it was hard to imagine him being run down.”
