WHAT was meant to be a nice little hit out has turned into a difficult assignment for Line Up.
Looking to give the son of Bettors Delight “a warm up run” before the New South Wales Derby heats, trainer Anthony Butt picked a suitable three-year-old race at Club Menangle on Saturday night.
First-up since winning the Victoria Derby three weeks ago, Line Up is being primed for his local Blue Riband, which begins with qualifiers on February 29.
As for his pending assignment, Line Up’s opposition include Govenor Jujon, Perfect Stride and Youaremy Sunshine, which completed the first four across the finish in the Victorian classic!
Perfect Stride is also prepared by Butt.
“It’s turned out to be a pretty strong field,” Butt said. “He has done well since the Victoria Derby and given it is five weeks between then and the New South Wales Derby heats, I picked this race out as a warm up run.
“Looks like I’m not the only one who had that plan.”
To be driven by Butt, Line Up has drawn wide in barrier 10, with Perfect Stride to come from gate seven.
Cameron Hart is set to take the reins behind Perfect Stride.
Govenor Jujon has drawn barrier 11, with Youaremy Sunshine in nine.
“The draw has also made it tough, but that’s the case with all those from the Victoria Derby,” Butt said.
“Line Up is in very good order as is Perfect Stride and they will both be hard to beat.”
