“We could be watching the emergence of the best trotting mare we’ve ever seen”

AN EMOTIONAL Matthew Craven was fighting back the tears as he praised Pink Galahs following her extraordinary win at Tabcorp Park Melton just moments ago.

Competing against a host of the nation’s best open class trotters, the three-year-old achieved what many believed unachievable by capturing the Bill Collins Sprint.

With Craven in the cart, Pink Galahs enjoyed the perfect one-one trip before scoring by a head from Dance Craze.

Tough Monarch was two metres away third.

“I’m so proud of this little girl,” Craven said. “I nearly fainted halfway up the straight I was yelling at her that hard, but she responded brilliantly.

“She’s only tiny and I was trying to fit her into a pretty small gap and when she saw the gap she took off…she’s just a little tiger

“If they all tried like her this job would be easy…I’d love to see her heart.”

Rating 1:54.3 over 1720 metres, the daughter of Skyvalley stretched her record to 10 wins and four placings from 16 starts for earnings of $105,570.

Having been involved in harness racing before some of us were even an itch in our Dad’s pants, Bill Hutchison has seen plenty of superstar fillies.

Outstanding types such as Scotch Notch, Luna Lass, Maori Princess, Melpark Maid, Zesta and Spidergirl just to name a handful.

Yet none of them could match Pink Galahs according to the veteran industry identity.

“What she did tonight is amazing,” Huchison said. “She’s like no other three-year-old filly I can think of…she’s more like a six-year-old gelding!

“She is so settled and professional and has just beaten the best open class trotters around.

“If she goes on with it we could be watching the emergence of the best trotting mare we’ve ever seen.”
