Ready to continue winning streak
DESPITE the step up in grade and distance, Brantley is ready to continue his winning streak according to trainer Aaron Bain.
Joining Bain’s stable earlier this season, Brantley found his niche during the Scamper Series in May and June.
The son of Art Major won five of the six 1385-metre heats he contested before capturing the Final over the same distance.
“The Scamper really suited him to the ground,” Bain said. “It was an ideal series for him.
“Other than finishing third in one of the heats, he all but made a clean sweep of it.
“I gave him a few light days after the Final before taking him to Mildura where he did well to win over 1790 metres a few weeks ago.
“He’s had a nice freshen-up since then and is ready to go again.”
Engaged in tomorrow night’s Globe Derby meeting, Brantley will switch to a standing start over 2230 metres.
With top driver Wayne Hill to take the reins, Brantley has drawn to settle prominently from three.
“It’s only a small field of six, but a pretty handy line-up,” Bain said. “I gave him a standing start trial and he only skipped away, but once into his stride he went really well.
“As long as he handles the stand ok, no matter where he settles in the run he won’t be far off the pace.
“He’s gone up in grade quickly because of the Scamper Series, but I think he’ll be suited to free-for-all racing here as he comes off the speed quit well.”
