Winning streak extended with Group One success

A SHORT break before she continues her rise to the top of the crop.

That’s the plan with Soho Historia, which continued her winning streak last night.

Undefeated from six starts for Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart, Soho Historia captured the Queensland Oaks at Albion Park.

Thrilled with the filly’s progress, Stewart has set her sights on several home state majors later in the season.

Along with a crack at the Victoria Oaks, Soho Historia is also eligible for the Australasian Breeders’ Crown and Vicbred Super Series.

“There are no specific races planned for her in the short term, but she is eligible for several majors close to home later on,” Stewart said.

“She has come up through the fillies’ ranks so quickly and just hasn’t stopped improving.

“I’ll give her an easy time of it now as she’s had three starts in the three weeks of July, plus the trip to Queensland, so a let up will do her good.

“After that she will be wound up for the Oaks back home.”

Driven by Mark Pitt during her latest victory, Soho Historia was settled midfield from barrier 11 as Steno worked to the lead.

Taken to the extreme outside on the final turn, the daughter of Courage Under Fire sprinted to a metre-and-a-half win from Amore Vita.

Steno was three-and-a-half metres away third in 1:55.3 over 2138 metres.

“I was a little worried when she was still a fair way off the leaders leaving the back straight, but she really knuckled down and hit the line well,” Stewart said.

“It was a great run and a top drive from Mark.”
