Wolf primed to become the alpha
HAVING completed a successful stable debut last week, talented youngster Wolf Of West Bay will attempt to repeat the dose tonight.
Triumphant at Globe Derby for trainer David Harding, the three-year-old will returned to the troubled venue where he will once again face older rivals.
Wolf Of West Bay was transferred to Harding by previous trainer Alyce Finnis due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Given the long drive from Mount Gambier to compete at the home of South Australian harness racing, Finnis decided the switch is the best move for her family, owners and the industry.
“He did well first-up,” Harding said. “He came here in good condition and ran accordingly.
“I’ve been pleased with his work during the week and expect him to be hard to beat again.
“He’s getting up in national rating and is against more experienced horses which makes it harder but he will do a good job.”
To be driven by Harding’s partner Dani Hill, Wolf Of West Bay has drawn wide in barrier six.
Despite the early imposition the son of Art Major is a $2.15 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds.
Boasting two wins and a second from three local outings, Illusionation is considered the main danger at $2.50 from the pole.
“Our draw isn’t the best, but that’s up to the driver to work out,” Harding said. “Illusionation is here because of the massive drop back in national points and that is going to help him again.
“Coming from one makes him the one to beat.”
