Another classy type heading interstate
ANOTHER talented type has joined the ever-growing list of feature race raiders heading to Queensland in coming weeks.
With the Sunshine State poised to host its popular Winter Carnival, high class pacers and trotters along the eastern seaboard are being readied for northern campaigns.
Following his victory at Club Menangle last night, connections revealed Minos has earned an interstate sojourn.
Minos is being aimed at the Queensland, Redcliffe and South East Derbys, with The Rising Sun on the ‘maybe’ list.
Given the KerryAnn Morris-trained gelding is a three-year-old, he is likely to stick to his own age as opposed to battling four-year-olds in The Rising Sun despite the riches on offer.
The Rising Sun carries a purse of $337,250, plus a $100,000 bonus to a three-year-old winner and a $25,000 bonus for a three-year-old placegetter!
“He is definitely heading to Queensland now,” Morris’ husband-reinsman, Robbie, said. “He will head up one day this week with his first race being the Redcliffe Derby in a fortnight.
“At this stage he will be sticking to the Derbys, with The Rising Sun a maybe.
“There is great prizemoney on offer in The Rising Sun, but we’re thinking long term with him and what it may take out of him racing against the best four-year-olds around.
“If he keeps developing into a top four, five and six-year-old like we hope, then he can always go in The Rising Sun next year at four!”
With Robbie in the cart during his latest triumph, Minos worked to the lead from barrier nine before completing an effortless 11-and-a-half metre win from Ever Art.
A stablemate of the winner, American Spirit was four metres away third in 1:51.2 over 1609 metres.
