WELL-PERFORMED squaregaiter Magicool will enjoy a “few easy days” before being given another chance at Group One glory.
Racing in consistent form, Magicool earned a crack at the Australian Grand Prix thanks to his victory in tonight’s Terang Trotters’ Cup.
The $100,000 feature is scheduled to be conducted as part of the Lyn McPherson Memorial card at Tabcorp Park Melton on February 29.
“He has been racing competitively against the better ones and deserves another go at a big race,” trainer Chris Svanosio said.
“He only needs the right run on the night to win one of those races.
“I will give him a few easy days now then have him ready for the Grand Prix in a couple of weeks.”
Driven by Svanosio Magicool began well from his 20-metre back mark to settle midfield before being sent forward to occupy the ‘death seat’ as Ronald J led.
Forging his way to the front along the back straight, the gelding completed a strong four-and-a-half metre win from his stablemate Kyvalley Finn, with Deltasun three metres away third.
“It was a tough choice to drive him tonight as I have driven Kyvalley Finn in every one of his races, but I felt Magicool was the better chance,” Svanosio said.
“He made his handicap up quite well at the start and still had plenty left at the finish.
“It was a good solid effort from him.”
Rating 2:03.5 over 2680 metres, Magicool captured his second country cup for the season having secured Yarra Valley’s flagship trot last November
