TOMORROW’S Australian Pacing Gold Sale is expected to created plenty of interest.
With 120 quality lots catalogued, the Perth leg shapes as a buyers’ and sellers’ paradise and is destined to eclipse last year’s stellar results.
The line-up breaks down to 62 colts, 57 fillies and a gelding by leading sires such as American Ideal, Art Major, Bettors Delight, Captaintreacherous, Mach Three, Rock N Roll Heaven, Shadow Play and Somebeachsomewhere just to name a handful.
Add stallions such as Always B Miki, Betting Line, Follow The Star and Sunshine Beach to the list and it’s easy to understand why demand will be high.
On the broodmare side of the families there are plenty of Group One winners and producers with athletic looking progeny ready to enter the Magic Million Complex Sales ring.
As for which Lot will earn bragging rights by topping the sale only time will tell.
On the subject of bragging rights, my partner Kim Procter and I selected a yearling each as our favourite leading into the recent Melbourne.
Staying away from breeding, conformation, temperament and so on, the Lots were chosen for their ‘Hollywood’ looks.
I chose Lot 120 – a handsome black colt with a white blaze and sock by Betting Line from Geejaylee.
Kimmy went with Lot 90 for his “unique colouring”.
With a pair of black front legs and white socks on the back leading into black upper legs, the colt has a predominantly brown body with white specks throughout, particularly his flanks.
Also by Betting Line, the youngster is from Billion Smiles.
Obviously I have a better eye as my selection sold for a higher price.
Looking for redemption, Kim has circled Lot 373 as her leading Perth contender.
By Australian Pacing Gold purchase Fly Like An Eagle, the filly is from moderately-performed mare Just Like Gina which has one starter from four foals of racing age.
“This is a very nicely put together filly,” preparer Mick Holtham said. “She is athletic, has a long stride and is the best tempered and natured foal the mare has ever had.
“I’ve got high hopes for her on the track as she has a nice long barrel.”
For me it has to be Lot 416.
Complete with three white socks, the leggy filly is by Alta Christiano from Shez Lockets Rocket, which has one starter from two foals of racing age.
Away from the competitive nature of selection, an honourable mention goes to Lot 411.
Yet another filly, the flashy grey is by Shadow Play from American mare She Has Passion.
