A DIFFICULT draw should do little to prevent Atomic Red from continuing his winning streak.

In super form this preparation, the Australian Pacing Gold purchase has won five of his last seven starts, including his three recent outings.

Atomic Red’s two latest victories were in Bathurst, where he returns tonight for trainer Steve Turnbull.

“He is in great shape,” Turnbull said. “He’s always been among the best of his crop and has gotten better with age.

“Strength is his biggest asset and he’s been able to put that to good use this time in.”

To be driven by Turnbull’s daughter Amanda, Atomic Red has drawn the outside of the second row.

Despite his tricky starting position the son of Rocknroll Hanover is a prohibitive $1.22 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds.

“Hopefully he can push through at the start and get into a good trail early,” Turnbull said. “At his last start he was three-wide before going forward to the lead and won pretty easily.

“He’ll have to be put into the race early and I’d say Amanda would be looking to go forward at some stage.”

Atomic Red is one of three runners Turnbull has in the race, with Maximus Red drawn six and Hidden Courage to come from seven.

“Maximus Red and Hidden Courage are both handy and can win if they get the right luck,” Turnbull said. “Although he’s also drawn the back line, Fouroeight would have to be the main danger.”
