Drawn to hit a high note

AN IDEAL draw and strong form has Pitch Perfect ready to hit a high note at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

Boasting five wins and two seconds from his last seven starts, Pitch Perfect is set to contest the Multiquip Final for trainer Roy Roots junior.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way he is going,” Roots said. “He is flying at the moment and is ready to run another big race.

“This is a step up for him, but he’s more than capable of handling it.”

To Roots delight, the son of Bettors Delight will begin from the pole in the Group Three.

Pitch Perfect heads into the decider having finished second behind Major Roll in their heat last weekend.

Talented concession reinsman Tom Ison will take the reins behind the gelding.

“He’s got a descent draw, which he hasn’t had for quite a while, so I plan to take full advantage of it that’s for sure,” Roots said.

“We’ll definitely be looking to hold up from there and if he can lead I don’t think they can beat him.

“His run last week was huge, don’t get me wrong the winner deserved to win, but it was a big run from Pitch Perfect.”

Predicting Major Roll will make his presence felt again, Roots rates leading trainer Craig Cross’ squad to be the hardest to beat.

Cross has four runners in the field, including No Win No Feed which is expected to show her customary gate speed from barrier three.

Prepared by Stephen Maguire, Major Roll will begin from gate 10.

“Major Roll will be right in it again, but his draw makes it hard,” Roots said. “Craig’s got a few in it and they’re always hard to beat.

“There is plenty of form in it and it should be a good race.”
