Feeling pressure with in-form mare
ELDERSLIE horseman Cameron Ross admits to feeling “a bit of pressure” ahead of Saturday night’s Club Menangle meeting.
Ross is poised to contest the Garrards Ladyship Stake with recent stable addition Uroc Skinny Jeans.
Making her debut for Ross last weekend, Uroc Skinny Jeans scored in 1:52.7 around the world class venue.
It is that win and the mare’s previous form which has Ross mindful of the pressure.
Uroc Skinny Jeans entered Ross’ team on the strength of three wins and two seconds from her five previous starts for owner-trainer Rick Burnett.
“She came to me in very good form, which she took into last week’s race,” Ross said. “There is a bit of pressure to keep that form going.
“Her work this week has been very good, so I am expecting her to run another good race.”
Driven by Cameron Hart during her recent victory, Uroc Skinny Jeans will be partnered by Blake Fitzpatrick this time after Hart elected to take the reins behind odds-on favourite Rocknroll Angel.
Drawn four Uroc Skinny Jeans is on the fourth line of betting at $8, with Rocknroll Angel a $1.35 hot shot from barrier eight.
“The draw poses an interesting dilemma,” Ross said. “It is a bit wider than I’d like to go forward, but you don’t really want to go back from there either.
“The pole mare has been scratched, so we moved into three, which could answer the question on what she’ll do at the start.”
