Daley’s loss inspires Ross

SOMETIMES in anyone’s chosen sport there are many twists and turns on the way to making a success of it.

That scenario could not be more highlighted when looking at the career of up-and-coming Sydney trainer Cameron Ross, who boasts an imposing Curriculum Vitae.

Ross left Queensland three years ago to join Noel Daley, who had returned from the United States to take over the training duties for the powerful Emilio and Mary Rosati “Stride” enterprise at Menangle.

“Unfortunately, Noel decided to return to the US, and it was at that point I decided to bite the bullet and become a trainer in my own right,” said Ross.

“Thankfully things have worked out well and my stable has developed from there.

“I was fortunate to have learned my craft working for Grant Dixon in Queensland.

“He is such a talented trainer-driver and I was with him for five years.

“But when the opportunity arose to head to Sydney and link up with Noel, I grabbed it with both hands as I felt that I could gain even more skills, knowing that it was my desire to one day have my own stable.”

And Ross’ desire has now converted to reality as he currently has 10 horses in work at the Club Menangle Training Centre and is enjoying a great run of success.

“I have been very lucky to have recently been sent some really nice horses from the bush, particularly from the Riverina area that have been racing through their grades or are in the process of doing so,” he said.

“Tonight at Penrith I am confident that both the horses I have competing can go very close to winning.

“Walkamileinmyshoes [Race 1] is a nice little mare that was sent to me by Liam Armstrong from Coolamon.

“She impressed me by winning first-up after joining my team last month and tonight has drawn perfectly in gate two.

“Barring any bad luck in the run, she should be able to lead and win again.

“The Amber Hare [Race 6] is an exceptionally well-bred filly that was sent to me by Bernie and Dianne Kelly from Wagga.

“She, too, has plenty of ability and she ran third at her debut run and although she is still learning how to race and does lack experience, I think she can get the cash from barrier two.”
