Interstate trip on the cards

ANOTHER interstate trip is one the cards for promising gelding Hez So Royal.

Sent for a well-earned break following his Southern Cross Final success last December, Hez So Royal was taken across the border on June 19 when first-up from his spell.

Third on that occasion, the three-year-old was then sent back to score in Mildura a fortnight later.

The Allan Cronin-trained youngster then had no luck at Globe Derby on August 1 before prevailing at the same venue last night.

Rapt with Hez So Royal’s progress, Cronin revealed he is priming the son of Soho Tribeca for a Vicbred Super Series heat in Kilmore on August 27.

“The aim this time in has always been the Vicbred,” Cronin said. “Step one was winning his Vicbred bonus, which he did in Mildura.

“The next step is a heat of the Super Series to see how he measures up. Hopefully he does well enough and it’s on to the semis and the Final.

“I’ll give him another start at Globe Derby, most likely next Saturday, and then it’ll be on to Victoria.”

As for his latest victory, Hez So Royal led throughout from barrier two to score by a head from a determined Alwaysbealady, with Heez A Vibe six metres away third.

With Ryan Hryhorec in the cart, Hez So Royal rated 2:01.9 over 2230 metres, taking his record to nine wins and three placings from 15 starts.

“I was pretty confident before the race and he ran to expectations,” Cronin said.
