Drought-breaker a ‘satisfying win’

CONSISTENT trotter Sammy Barbaro broke a long drought from the winners’ circle at Globe Derby last Saturday night.

Among the placegetters during his three previous starts, Sammy Barbaro registered his first victory since September 8. 2025.

Naturally thrilled with the trotter’s performance, trainer Peta Brown explained Sammy Barbaro’s win was the result of “long road back” to health.

“He had pretty bad ulcers for a fair while and got really sick,” Brown said. “We treated him and gave him time off, but it has been a long road back.

“He has been getting better with every run and to get a win from him is very satisfying knowing the work that has gone into him.”

With Brown’s husband Terry holding the reins, Sammy Barbaro was caught three-wide from barrier five before being settled at the tail of the field as Ima Destroyer led from gate two.

Three-wide around the home turn, the son of Majestic Son unleashed a strong sprint to score by three metres from Star Of Patrick, with No Remorse two metres away third.

“He felt super all the way and I was just desperate for an opening down the back straight,” Terry said. “Once he got into the clear, he grabbed the bit and I knew he had it won 400 metres from home.

“There is a heat and Final series coming up in a couple of weeks, which is the way we will head with him next.”
