Plans remain uncertain despite victory

IMMEDIATE racing plans remain uncertain with quality filly Dr Susan despite adding another Group One to her tally tonight.

Successful in the Victoria Oaks last January, Dr Susan proved too good in the Bathurst Gold Bracelet just moments ago.

Due to be given a short let-up, Dr Susan was then going to be readied for the Queensland Winter Carnival, which includes the state’s Oaks and a possible clash with the ‘boys’ in the Derby.

With travel restrictions in place due to the Coronavirus outbreak, coupled with the prospect of the Sunshine State’s major races being cancelled, it is unlikely the daughter of Bettors Delight will head north according to driver Anthony Butt.

“At this stage all plans are up in the air with her,” Butt explained. “The idea was for her to stay in Australia for this race and then the Queensland Oaks, but that seems unlikely.

“Like so many others, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens as far as travelling goes.”

Beginning quickly to lead from barrier two, Dr Susan was never seriously challenged on her way to a four-metre win from Vincenzina, with Amelia Rose six metres away third.

Co-trained by Cran Dalgety and Nathan Purdon, the three-year-old rated 1:56.3 over 2260 metres to take her record to eight wins and eight placings from 22 starts for a bankroll of $243,283.

“I knew a few drawn wider would come out fast looking to cross her, so leading was the key to the race,” Butt said.

“Once she was able to set the pace she was always going to be difficult to get passed.

“She felt good throughout at hit the line really well.”
