MARYBOROUGH’S famed Redwood Classic has been marked firmly on Kyvalley Dixon’s agenda.

Speaking after the filly’s success in last night’s Vicbred Super Series Final in Melton, trainer Brent Lilley revealed Kyvalley Dixon will be kept fresh ahead of the Group One.

The crown jewel on the club’s calendar, the Redwood Classic is scheduled to be conducted on November 1.

As such, Kyvalley Dixon will be given a short break before being primed for the standing start.

“We will line her up for the Redwood now,” Lilley said. “She has been well educated from the stand and her manners have been great, so it’s an obvious target for her.

“It’s still six or seven weeks away, which means she can have an easy week before I wind her up again.

“I’ll look for a suitable lead up race between now and then and work along those lines.”

Driven by Chris Alford during her latest outing, Kyvalley Dixon was settled three-back in the running line from her second row draw as Aldebaran Emjay worked to the lead.

Angled three-wide entering the back straight, the daughter of Majestic Son sustained a strong sprint to score by five-and-a-half metres from the hot favourite, Bumper Crop.

Enjoying the run of the race behind the frontrunner, Zippin Past was 16-and-a-half metres away third.

“She did a wonderful job,” Lilley said. “She is a quality filly when she does it right.

“With the favourite drawing two, and always likely to settle ahead of us, I wasn’t sure we could beat it, but she turned up on the night and got the job done.”

Rating 1:59.4 over 2240 metres, Kyvalley Dixon took her record to four wins and two placings from eight starts for owner Jim Connelly.
