CONSISTENT pacer Steel Screens has a solid chance to continue his winning form at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight.

Successful during his last two starts – both in Melton – Steel Screens is set to contest the Vicbred Pace for trainer Ashleigh Herbertson.

Pleased with the gelding’s efforts this preparation, Herbertson is quietly confident Steel Screens can complete a hat-trick with James Herbertson in the cart.

“He is not drawn all that well, but likes the shorter trip so the conditions suit,” Herbertson said.

“He’s a good chance in this and just needs the right run to be in the finish.

“A little luck from the draw would be nice, but as long as he gets a clear shot at them he should be right.

“It’s a pretty even field so it is fair to say the right run will be the difference with all of them.”

Hopeful Steel Screens can keep progressing through the classes, Herbertson will find suitable races for the son of Rock N Roll Heaven as they are programmed.

“He is quite a nice horse but can be bit of a handful to drive,” Herbertson said.

“I’ll just keep trying to find mile races for him as that’s where he races best.

“A mile to 1800 metres is his go, anything further than that and he can finish it off as well as he should.”
