Tiger to pounce on maiden win
A PERFECT draw has presented Pinny Tiger with a prime opportunity to break his maiden status at Gloucester Park tomorrow night.
Runner-up at three of his four starts, Pinny Tiger has drawn the pole in the Pearl Classic in what will be his second outing for trainer Michael Brennan.
The Australian Pacing Gold purchase began his career in Victoria before being transferred ‘home’ last month.
Pleased with the two-year-old’s progress, which includes a second in his heat, Brennan is confident Pinny Tiger is ready to register an elusive triumph.
To be driven by Michael Gratham, the son of Mach Three is a $1.90 favourite in early markets.
“It will be nice if he can get his first win on the board, especially tomorrow night,” Brennan said. “Winning a Group One would be a great way to break his maiden.
“I’m rapt with him and expect him to keep getting better…he’s a pretty nice type.
“The draw really gives him his chance and he’s going to be hard to beat from there.”
Citing Lavra Joe as the main danger, Brennan also rates Jett Star as a major threat.
Boasting six wins and three placings from 12 starts, Lavra Joe will come from barrier three.
The son of Roll With Joe captured the Champagne Classic at the same venue on April 24.
Facing a tough task from the middle of the back line, Jett Star is undefeated from three starts.
“Lavra Joe has proven he is a nice horse and is the one to beat,” Brennan said. “Jett Star has looked good so far but this will be harder.
“This would have to be as good as any two-year-old field I have seen over here at this time of the season.”
