Tiger’s ‘cub’ brother makes perfect debut
HE’S unlikely to reach the dizzy heights of his famed sibling, but Stingray Tara certainly created an impression during his Australian debut.
A recent addition to the Geoff Webster stable Stingray Tara outclassed his rivals in Bendigo last night to complete a perfect start for his new owners.
By Bettors Delight from Tara Gold, the four-year-old is the younger brother of former star pacer Tiger Tara.
Tiger Tara’s prowess carried him to glory in seven Group Ones, including the Holy Grail of harness racing – the Inter Dominion.
He also captured the time honoured A G Hunter Cup and the Victoria Cup, with his credits including Grand Circuit Champion and Australian Horse of the Year.
Overall Tiger Tara registered 37 wins and 40 placings for a bankroll of $2,375,065 and a best time of 1:49.8 before being retired to stud.
Tiger Tara will stand at Medowie Lodge this season in what is his fist commercial stint as a stallion.
As for Stingray Tara he has the makings of a “descent city horse” according to Webster.
“I don’t think he will be getting to the same heights as Tiger Tara but he will win his share of races,” Webster said.
“What he did last night he did comfortably and should work his way through to become a descent city horse.
“He’s not on a hard a mark at this stage so he’ll just keep working through the classes.”
With Webster holding the reins Stingray Tara showed a glimpse of his brother’s staying ability when he sat outside the leader before sprinting to a seven-and-a-half metre win from Izzy Jolie, which enjoyed the one-one trail.
Ajay Breezy Rose was two-and-a-half metres away third in 1:56 over 2150 metres.
