TOP trotter Tough Monarch will continue his busy schedule this weekend.
Fresh from a solid New Zealand campaign, Tough Monarch will be sent across the border to contest tomorrow night’s Australasian Trotting Championship at Tabcorp Park Melton.
Tough Monarch had three starts on the Shaky Isles for New South Wales trainer Rickie Alchin, including a third in the Dominion Handicap during his last outing.
“He’s come through the trip to New Zealand in great shape,” Alchin said. “He’s done it all before, so he just took it in his stride.
“As soon as he got home he just ate, drank and settled in like he never left.
“I wasn’t originally considering taking him down to Melton, but the way he is feeling, it fits in perfectly.”
With Alchin to take the reins, Tough Monarch will begin from the outside of the back row.
TAB Fixed Odds have reacted by listing the son of Monarchy as the $5 second elect.
Rising star Majestuoso is the $2.10 favourite from barrier seven for trainer Andy Gath.
“The draw is not the best but he is going well enough to overcome it,” Alchin said. “It’s over 2760 metres which gives him plenty of time to settle and be put into the race.
“We’ll just have to hope for the right run on the night.
“Majestuoso is the one to beat, but that said, this is also a step up for him.”
