Weight of numbers no guarantee
WEIGHT of numbers are certainly in his favour, but that’s no guarantee of a win according to Shane Loone.
Loone has five of the six runners in the claiming event at Globe Derby on Saturday night, including the early favourite, Jakes Sportwriter.
A consistent son of Sportswriter, the gelding was successful against similar company at the same venue last week.
With popular concession driver Corey Johnson to take the reins, Jakes Sportwriter has drawn to search for the lead from barrier four.
“Jakes Sportwriter doesn’t know how to put in a bad run,” Loone said. “He always gives his best and it’s just a matter of whether his best is good enough on the night.
“He beat pretty much the same field last time around and I can’t see any reason why he won’t to it again.”
With Secret Jack, Star Writer, Victory Medal and Captain Mannering in the 2230-metre event, Loone is assured success – so it would appear!
Loone, however, isn’t so certain.
“I’ve got the numbers and have no doubt Jakes Sportwriter is the best chance in the race, but the only horse I don’t have in the field also happens to be his biggest threat,” Loone said.
“Canada Bay got to a metre of him when they raced last weekend and is more than capable of turning the tables this time.”
