TOMORROW night’s Metropolitan Region Championship is shaping as a Wolf versus the pack encounter.
Winner of his last five starts, Wolf Stride is set to contest the Group One at Club Menangle for trainer Anthony Butt.
Although drawn wide in barrier six over 2300 metres, Wolf Stride is a $2.60 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.
Among the entire’s rivals are five pack members of the Craig Cross stable, including his main danger Culture King.
A last start winner at the world class venue, Culture King is the second elect at $3.70 from gate eight.
Culture King slots into seven with the removal of the emergency.
Cross will also be represented by Royal Aurora, Bettor Robyn, First String and Longnwindingroad.
Royal Aurora, Bettor Robyn and First String will come from barriers one, two and three, with Longnwindingroad faring the worst in gate 11.
Despite the varying obstacles ahead, the son of Rock N Roll Heaven is ready to play a major role in the finish according to Butt.
“It’s not going to be an easy race for him,” Butt said. “There is a lot of form in the field and Craig’s lot will all be hard to beat.
“The draw isn’t the best either, but it’s only a starting point.
“I couldn’t be happier with him going into it, and as long as he gets a clear run, he’s going to be right in the finish.”
Butt also has Always A Stride in the feature, with the son of Art Major among the outsiders from barrier nine.
“He’s going to need a lot of luck, but it’s not like he can’t win it if the breaks go his way,” Butt said.
