Won’t have to look far to find trouble

PROMISING freshman Northern Terror may not have to look far to find his biggest danger at Globe Derby tomorrow night.

Set to contest the Sapling Stake, Northern Terror is one of two runners astute horseman Dale Afford has in the feature.

Afford will also be represented by Ultimate Trouble which has drawn to test her stablemate and warm favourite.

Runner-up at her two starts, Ultimate Trouble – which lived up to her name early in her education – will begin from the pole.

Pleased with the filly’s progress, Afford is mildly confident Ultimate Trouble can lead for concession reinsman Brodie Webster.

“She is improving all the time,” Afford said. “When breaking in she would just lay down wouldn’t go….I didn’t think she would race by this time.

“She’s getting better and has done well in her two starts.

“I expect she can lead from the pole and Brodie seems to get along well with her.”

To be driven by Afford, Northern Terror will come from barrier three.

A last start winner at the same venue, the son of Western Terror is likely to be driven “quietly” despite recently scoring from the ‘death seat’.

“Although he won last week he was a bit disappointing as he wanted to switch off,” Afford said. “Being outside the leader is how he has won but it’s not ideal.

“I’d like to drive him with a sit if I could but we’ll see how it unfolds.”

Along with Ultimate Trouble, Afford rates Dancing Finn as a major threat for trainer Lance Holberton.

Also successful during her previous outing Dancing Finn has drawn gate two.

“Dancing Finn will probably get the best run along from there which will make her hard to beat,” Afford said.
