YOU were warned!
With doubters beginning to grow following defeats during her last two starts, premier trainer Emma Stewart declared those who underestimated Ladies In Red did so at their own peril.
Runner-up in her Breeders’ Crown heat and semi, Ladies In Red then draw the back row in the Final, which saw the proverbial ‘knives sharpened’.
Add the fact exciting Kiwi raider Bettor Twist, which won her semi, had fared better in barrier four and all of a sudden Ladies In Red’s bandwagon was lighter.
During the lead-up to tonight’s Final at Tabcorp Park Melton, Stewart was adamant the daughter of Mach Three was ready to return to the winners’ circle.
“Like everyone does, her owners would like to see her win every time she goes around, but all champions still get beaten,” Stewart said.
“We’ve been happy with her last two runs and she is precisely where we want her going into the Final.”
Well, Stewart was proven spot on when Ladies In Red treated her rivals with contempt this evening.
Driven by David Moran, Ladies In Red came with a scintillating three-wide run along the back straight to sprint to a five-and-a-half metre win from her stablemate, Joanna.
Bettor Twist was six metres away third.
Bred by Lauriston Bloodstock, Ladies In Red rated 1:53.1 over 2240 metres to successfully defend the title she captured last season.
“She’s an absolute star and her times were off the chart,” Stewart said. “The way she joined in down the back was unbelievable.
“People have been disappointed with her in the last couple of weeks but we haven’t been and we knew she was ready to give her best.
“She’ll have a few light days now then we’ll get her ready for the Vicbred Super Series next month.”
The three-year-old’s victory was the third of four Group One wins for Stewart, who also prepared Just A Bit Touchy, Act Now and Encipher to secure their Breeders’ Crown divisions.
Stewart was also triumphant in both Group Two Breeders’ Crown Championships with Honolua Bay and Maajida.
