You’ll need luck from a tough draw ‘bro’

REPONSIBLE for a strong win at Globe Derby last night, Whatabro will need to produce a similar effort when he returns to the same venue during the weekend.

Successful at his last two starts, Whatabro led throughout to register the first victory before occupying the ‘death seat’ to outstay his rivals for his latest triumph.

“He had been working better than he had been racing so I thought I’d drive him a little more aggressive,” trainer Darren Billinger said.

“I was very happy with the way he put in and he found the line well.”

Engaged in Saturday evening’s Sires’ Produce, the son of Four Starzzz Shark has drawn wide in what will also be a step up in class.

With Billinger set to take the reins again, Whatabro will come from the outside of the front line.

“The draw has certainly made it tough on him,” Billinger said. “It’s a pretty strong field so I won’t be driving him as aggressively.

“I’ll look to slot in somewhere handy and hope he can come home strongly.”

Adding to Billinger’s dismay is Whatabro’s main rivals have fared better in the draw.

Unbeaten from two starts for prominent horseman David Harding, Wolf Of West Bay is the one to beat from gate four.

Early markets have the gelding at $1.90.

“Wolf Of West Bay is a nice three-year-old which is in top form,” Billinger said. “He’d be hard to be from any draw, but it’s certainly worked in his favour.”
