Young gun edging towards milestone

IN 2018 a wide-eyed Cameron Hart packed his bags and moved from the Riverina to the ‘big smoke’ in search of his dream.

Harbouring a passion for all things harness racing, Hart was determined to forge a career as a reinsman.

“I wanted to become a freelance driver and to do that I had to move closer to Sydney,” Hart said.

“I started working for Shane Sanderson when I moved up, but that stopped when he moved to Victoria.”

Fast forward to today and the 22-year-old is not only considered one of Australia’s ‘young gun drivers’ but is on the verge of a milestone.

Thanks to a double at Club Menangle on Tuesday Hart is within striking distance of 500 wins.

The talented horseman requires a treble in Penrith tonight to reach the target, but admits his prospects are slim.

“I’ve got five drives tonight, which are chances, but I’ll need a lot to go my way,” Hart said. “I could probably get a win or two with a touch of luck, but I reckon I’d be stretching it hoping for a treble.

“Cherishthememories in the fourth would be my best chance of getting a winner tonight.”

Beyond the Penrith program, Hart has three drives at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

“I knew I was getting close to 500 wins, but didn’t know I was only three wins away,” Hart said.

“It would be great to get a treble tonight, but I’ll just take it as it comes.

“If not tonight, maybe at Menangle on the weekend, or maybe I’ll have to wait a bit longer.

“When it happens, it happens!”
