Youngster can emulate Group One winning sibling
ALTHOUGH she had a later start to her career, Beautiful Woman is more than capable of matching her well-accomplished older sibling.
Making her debut on April 29 when unplaced after racing greenly in Ballarat, Beautiful Woman has won her two subsequent starts at Tabcorp Park Melton, including earlier tonight.
Pleased with the three-year-old’s progress, trainer Emma Stewart believes Beautiful Woman can enjoy success at Group One level like her half-brother Our Little General.
Among the best of his crop, Our Little General won the Australasian Breeders’ Crown as a two-year-old and the Victoria Derby the following season.
“We’ve got a very big opinion of her,” Stewart said. “She was ready to go last season as a two-year-old but went sore.
“It was nothing serious. She is a big filly and just had some growing pains so she needed time off.
“She is more than capable of making her way to the best of her age and contesting the majors races later in the season.”
With Greg Sugars in the cart, Beautiful Woman was given time to settle into her stride from barrier three as her stablemate Float On By led from gate two.
After taking the filly the ‘death seat’ during the middle stages, Sugars slipped the daughter of Art Major more rein at the top of the home straight as she dashed to a six-metre win from Celebrity Chef.
Float On By completed a Stewart-trained trifecta when two metres away third in 2:00.2 over 2240 metres.
The trio also ran the trifecta last weekend, with the placings reversed.
“That was a nice strong run from her,” Stewart said. “She is still learning what it is all about but is getting better with every outing.”
Beautiful Woman’s victory was the opening leg of a double for Stewart who prepared Somewhere Secret to score in 1:55.2 over 1720 metres.
Like A Wildfire, a stablemate of the winner, was a two-and-a-half metre second.
