Bragging rights amongst brothers

CLUB Menangle has enhanced its status as a family friendly destination.

Earlier this month the Bigeni boys – Jake, Klayton and Mason – were successful at the venue in what was the first time the trio had won at the same meeting.

The brothers were triumphant as drivers, while their father – Simon junior – registered a training double.

Thrilled with the occasion, the elder statesmen described the outing as “better than going to Disneyland”.

“It’s always great when any of us get a win, but for all of us to win on the same day is amazing,” Simon said. “It’s the first time this has happened and is something I will never forget.

“It was a perfect day out, better than going to Disneyland.”

Fast forward to last Saturday night and another band of brothers – the Alchins – made their way into the winners’ circle for the first time at a metropolitan meeting.

While the Bigenis achieved their feat as drivers, the Alchins each trained a winner.

The eldest of the trio, Jarrod kick-started proceedings by securing the opening event with Quiet Storm, which outstayed his rivals over 2300 metres with Cameron Hart in the sulky.

“Being the eldest, it only makes sense that I set the standard with the first win,” Jarrod said. “The other two then just followed in my shadow.”

Alex completed a family double in the following race thanks to Im Rockin It, which also scored over 2300 metres.

The youngest brother, Alex, found a way to claim bragging rights over Jarrod.

“Jarrod’s bloke won in 1:55.5, while mine went 1:55.2,” Alex joked. “He clearly went quicker, so that’s one up for me!

“Like all brothers we’re competitive and have our blues, but we’re also each other’s biggest supporters.”

Middle child Rickie was quick to remind his siblings his win was in the night’s feature and included a quinella.

Lux Arterna led throughout the 1609-metre Norms Daughter Stake to beat her stablemate Golly Gee Fellas in 1:50.3.

“Ok, the other two got a win, but I got a quinella, so we know who came out one better,” Rickie said. “We’re all pretty close and have each other’s back, but going one up on the two of them is a good thing.”
