Hoping to end interstate campaign on a high

ENJOYING a successful stint in South Australia, Victorian horseman Jeremy Quinlan hopes to end his campaign on a high tomorrow.

Quinlan crossed the border with two members of his stable nine days ago, with Our Cheeky Devil thriving interstate.

The son of Shadow Play has had three starts for a third and a pair of wins, including a tough performance at Globe Derby last night.

With Quinlan holding the reins, Our Cheeky Devil occupied the ‘death seat’ on his way to a 1:58.4 victory from Rolling Remona and Midnight Crimes.

Suffering from the effects of travel, Our Cheeky Devil’s stablemate Taken By Wine has been unplaced during both of her outings.

“It would have been nice if Taken By Wine stayed at her best, but Devil has done a great job,” Quinlan said. “Can’t really ask for more from him.

“Taken just didn’t travel as well, but she has relaxed a lot better this week.

“They are both racing in Gawler tomorrow, so hopefully Devil keeps the streak going and Taken can head home on a high.”

Our Cheeky Devil is the first in action, with the gelding drawn barrier four over 2070 metres.

Early markets have the nine-year-old listed as a $3.30 favourite, with Oakhay considered the main danger at $3.90 from gate seven.

“He’s pulled up a treat from last night and is ready to go again,” Quinlan said. “He’s eaten all his feed and is bucking around the paddock without a care in the world.”

Later on the card Taken By Wine will begin from barrier five over 2070 metres against an open field of trotters.

“I’m confident she can show her best this time,” Quinlan said. “We’ll just have to see how the race pans out.”

Quinlan also has a ‘catch’ drive behind Bitofdutchcourage for local trainer Ella Brechin.

Second-up from a spell, Bitofdutchcourage has drawn gate seven.
