Derby domination like never before

NEVER far from registering remarkable milestones, Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart is an odds-on favourite to complete another this afternoon.

Stewart has undefeated youngster Enjoy Life engaged in the Tasmania Derby, with the son of Always B Miki a $1.30 hot shot despite drawing barrier nine.

Enjoy Life won his first five starts on the Apple Isle before being sent for a break last March.

The three-year-old then returned with a brilliant victory in Melton three weeks ago, where he made light of a second row in 1:52.4 over 1720 metres.

In what will be a phenomenal training performance, an Enjoy Life triumph will be Stewart’s fourth consecutive win in the classic. Stewart also scored with Maraetai in 2018.

Stewart was successful with Celebrity Royal in 2023, followed by Kingman and Captain Perfect during the next two editions.

No trainer has dominated the Derby in such a manner since its inception in 1926 when secured by The Ape.

As impressive as that sounds, Stewart has captured the last three Victoria Derbys with Petracca, Best Deal and Fox Dan.

Stewart is also on the honour thanks to Our Little General in 2017 and Act Now in 2021.

During the past 10 years Stewart has won an astonishing 16 state Derbys, including four in South Australia, in two New South Wales and one Queensland.
