More interstate trips on the cards

CLASSY filly Go Easy On Me will continue to do the bulk of her racing in New South Wales for the foreseeable future.

Although based in Victoria, Go Easy On Me has raced on the opposite side of the Murray River during five of her six starts for the term – including at Club Menangle last night.

Contesting the time-honoured Pink Diamond Stake, Go Easy On Me proved too good in what was her first outing since May 30.

Thrilled with the three-year-old’s return, trainer Courtney Laker outlined her plans, headed by the NSW Breeders’ Challenge, which begins with heats at Club Menangle on September 29.

In between, Go Easy On Me is likely to be taken to Wagga as she races her way to peak fitness.

“As for what’s next, I haven’t looked past last night, but I’ll see if I can find something for her in Wagga,” Laker said. “The better prizemoney and good track makes it a more attractive option.

“A little further down the track, her main aim this time in is the Breeders’ Challenge, so I will work her racing around having her right for that.”

Driven by Luke McCarthy during her latest outing, Go Easy On Me gained the ideal one-one trail from barrier 10 as One More Reason worked to the lead from gate seven.

Three-wide turning for home, the daughter of Bettors Delight reached the front in the final stride, scoring by a half-neck from One More Reason.

After trailing the pacemaker, Highindelight was a half-neck away third as the winner stopped the clock in 1:52.1 over a mile.

“That was a terrific first-up run,” Laker said. “I was pretty confident with her as she had been working well and won her trial in Kilmore, but the draw was still a concern.

“Once she got a trail down the back I was pretty confident she could finish over the top of them.”
