Stable change working wonders

LIFE in South Australia appears to agree with Lightning Bling.

Failing to make an impact during his first 22 starts in Victoria, Lightning Bling scored at his second outing for astute horseman Dean Girardi.

Runner-up upon debut for his new stable, the son of Bling It On proved too good in Port Pirie last Tuesday night.

Pleased with the gelding’s progress, Girardi believes Lightning Bling can continue to be a “good earner” for connections, which include care-taker Chris Massy.

“Chris is at the stable every morning helping, in fact, he’s driving the jogger as we talk,” Girardi said. “So we decided it would be nice to give Chris whatever Lightning earns.

“It’s worked out well already and I can’t see any reason why it won’t continue.

“He’s going to find it harder as he gets up in grade, but that bracket he is in at the moment really suits him.

“I think he should be a nice bread and butter earner.”

Driven by Dani Hill, Lightning Bling led throughout from barrier two to score by eight-and-a-half metres from Pretty Mischievous.

Love Of The Sea was a half-head away third as the winner covered the mile in 2:01.6.

“I was planning to drive him, but after he got here and we worked him, I felt Dani was a much better fit,” Girardi said. “He is only small and benefits from a lightweight such as Dani.

“There are no specific plans for him, but I’ve got him nominated for Gawler on Monday and I’m hoping Dani can stick with him.”
