It’s going to be an emotional day

WIN, lose or draw, Victorian trainer Mario Magri is going to be emotional tomorrow.

Magri will head to Bendigo with debutante filly Rosies Pride, which is set to contest the opening race on the card.

Part-owned by the horseman, the trotter is named in honour of Magri’s late wife, Rosemary.

Rosemary lost her battle with breast cancer a little more than a year ago.

“I named her after my wife Rosemary and hopefully this filly can be as great she was,” Magri said. “She has come along well in her preparation and should do a good job.

“Rosemary and I were married for a long time and there isn’t a day I don’t miss her.”

At Tabcorp Park Melton the following night Magri will be represented by Georgias Pride, which is named after his late mother.

A well-performed squaregaiter, Georgias Pride was successful at the same venue last weekend when first-up for six months.

Driven by John Caldow, the mare led throughout from barrier five to account for Kyvalley Clichy and Scruffy Doolan in 2:00.9 over 2440 metres.

With Caldow to take the reins again, Georgias Pride is expected to go forward early from gate three.

“She went very well last week,” Magri said. “I can’t expect much more from her than what she did first-up.

“She had been in work for a while and was coming along really well so I thought she’d be a good chance.

“She’s drawn well again and I’m hopeful she can get the job done once more.”
