Star colt strengthens grip on Final
STAR youngster Governor Jujon appears to have next weekend’s Qbred Triad Final well within his grasp.
Successful at Albion Park when returning from a two-month break a fortnight ago, Governor Jujon repeated the dose at the same venue last night.
Expected to derive plenty of benefit from his two runs, the three-year-old is a clear pre-draw favourite for Saturday’s Final.
Governor Jujon was runner-up behind the unbeaten Expensive Ego in last season’s freshman edition.
Thrilled with the colt’s progress, trainer Grant Dixon stated Governor Jujon will be in peak condition for his bid to go one better in the $50,660 Group Two.
“He had a nice freshen-up after the New South Wales Derby and it has done him the world of good,” Dixon said.
“I’ve been very happy with his two runs back and he’ll be in top shape for next week’s Final.
“The draw will paint a better picture, but he is going to be very hard to beat no matter where he comes from.”
With Dixon in the cart during his latest triumph, Governor Jujon was eased towards the tail of the field from his wide draw as Blacksadance worked to the lead from barrier five.
Angled three-wide without cover along the back straight, Governor Jujon sustained a strong sprint to score by a metre-and-a-half from the pacemaker, with Miss Ruby Sunshine a metre-and-a-half third.
Rating 1:54.2 over 1660 metres, the son of Cammibest stretched his record to 11 wins and three seconds from 16 starts for earnings of $219,387 for owner John Mammino.
