Young trotter facing acid test
ON THE surface everything seems to be in place for Im Hector to register a well-deserved win at Globe Derby tonight.
Runner-up at his two starts from a spell, Im Hector has drawn the pole for trainer Claire Goble.
That should give driver Wayne Hill the option for looking for the lead or taking a trail with the three-year-old son of Quaker Jet.
Under the surface Im Hector faces an acid test in the 2230-metre event according to Goble.
“This is his first attempt from the mobile and he hasn’t really had the opportunity to trial so hopefully he can go quite well,” Goble said.
“He’s fairly sensible so I can’t see it being a problem, but it is new to him so we’ll find out tonight.
“The wind is also shocking, I can barely stand up, so I don’t know what it’s going to be like when he lines up behind the mobile.”
Away from her concerns about the start, Goble is confident a fitter Im Hector is ready to run a strong race.
“I am really pleased with the way he has come along,” Goble said. “So far he has done every right.
“If he behaves from the mobile this is his chance to get another win.
“He is up against older horses again and it is a pretty even field.”
