Chevy too slick over sprint trip
A TRIP to the Sunraysia District is on the cards for popular pacer Love Ina Chevy.
Discussing his plans following Love Ina Chevy’s win at Tabcorp Park Melton tonight, trainer Lance Justice revealed he is considering tackling the Mildura Cup with the eight-year-old.
Heats of the provincial feature are scheduled to be run on March 31, with the $60,000 Cup programmed for April 4.
“I’m thinking about Mildura with him,” Justice said. “I haven’t made a firm decision yet but that is the way I may head.
“I’ll see how he is over the next couple of days and then weigh up the options.”
With Justice in the cart during his latest triumph, Love Ina Chevy was surged away from barrier five in search of the lead but was unable to cross Huli Nien which led from the pole.
Angled onto the pegs to trail the pacemaker, Love Ina Chevy enjoyed the run of the race before finishing along the sprint lane to score by a metre from Forty Thieves, with Van Mara a metre-and-a-half away third.
“I thought he had a good chance tonight over the short trip,” Justice said. “All he needed was the right run and that’s what he got.
“I was happy with the way he hit the line.”
Covering the 1200-metre dash in 1:22.5, Love Ina Chevy provided Justice with his fourth training win in The Stampede.
Justice’s previous victories came with Coastal in 2010 and ’11 and Toulouse Lautrec in 2014.
Lisa Justice partnered Coastal in 2010, while Justice was in the cart in 2011 and behind Toulouse Lautrec.
“I’ve had a bit of luck in this race,” Justice said. “Along with wining it twice Coastal finished second when going for a hat-trick.”
