    QUEENSLAND Racing Integrity Commission Stewards yesterday conducted an inquiry into the conduct of licensed trainer/s driver/s Mr Jason Grimson, Mr Jack Trainor, Brisbane Racing Club employee Mr Adam Russo and registered owner Mr Justin Downey following the completion of the Albion Park Harness Racing Club race meeting on 22 July 2023.

    Stewards considered evidence tendered by each party, the review of CCTV vision, and a report from security firm Leading Edge Security Group. The review of this evidence clearly established that all parties attending before the Stewards at today’s inquiry had committed assault upon another person at the Creek Bar at the Albion Park Paceway to varying degrees.

    After careful consideration, Stewards issued the following charges
    Mr Jason Grimson
    Charged pursuant to AHR rule 231 (1) (e) which states: A person shall not (e) assault anyone employed, engaged or participating in the harness racing industry or otherwise having a connection with it.
    The particulars of the charge being that Mr Jason Grimson did assault Mr Adam Rosso in the Creek Bar at Albion Park Paceway at 12.13am 23 July 2023. Mr Jason Grimson pleaded guilty to the charge.
    In assessing the matter of penalty Stewards considered the following:
    • The seriousness of the conduct which Stewards deemed as high range
    • The need for any penalty to serve as a deterrent both specific and general,
    • Mr Grimson’s record regarding behavioural type matters which indicated no previous
    offences.
    • Mr Grimson’s personal circumstances
    • Penalty precedents for similar type maters

    Jason Grimson was disqualified for a period of 12 months effective 23 August 2023 and was advised of his rights to appeal.

    Mr Jack Trainor
    Charged pursuant to AHR rule 231 (1) (e) which states: A person shall not (e) assault anyone employed, engaged or participating in the harness racing industry or otherwise having a connection with it.

    The particulars of the charge being that Mr Jack Trainor did assault Mr Adam Rosso in the Creek Bar at Albion Park Paceway at 12.12am, 23 July 2023. Mr Jack Trainor pleaded guilty to the charge.

    In assessing the matter of penalty Stewards considered the following:
    • The seriousness of the conduct which Stewards deemed as low range
    • Remorse shown for his actions
    • The need for any penalty to serve as a deterrent both specific and general,
    • Mr Trainor’s record regarding behavioural type matters which indicated no previous offences.
    • Mr Trainor’s personal circumstances
    • Penalty precedents for similar type maters

    Jack Trainor was disqualified for a period of 3 months effective 23 August 2023 and was advised of his rights to appeal.

    Mr Adam Russo
    Charged pursuant to AHR rule 231 (1) (e) which states: A person shall not (e) assault anyone employed, engaged or participating in the harness racing industry or otherwise having a connection with it.

    The particulars of the charge being that Mr Adam Russo did assault Mr Jason Grimson in the Creek Bar at Albion Park Paceway at 12.13am, 23 July 2023. Mr Adam Russo pleaded guilty to the charge.

    In assessing the matter of penalty Stewards considered the following:
    • The seriousness of the conduct which Stewards deemed as medium range,
    • Remorse shown for his actions,
    • The need for any penalty to serve as a deterrent both specific and general,
    • Mr Russo’s personal circumstances
    • Penalty precedents for similar type maters

    Adam Russo was warned off for a period of 6 months effective 23 August 2023 and was advised of his rights to appeal.

    Mr Justin Downey
    Charged pursuant to AHR rule 231 (1) (e) which states: A person shall not (e) assault anyone employed, engaged or participating in the harness racing industry or otherwise having a connection with it.
    The particulars of the charge being that Mr Justin Downey did assault Mr Adam Russo in the Creek Bar at Albion Park Paceway at 12.12am, 23 July 2023. Mr Justin Downey pleaded guilty to the charge.

    In assessing the matter of penalty Stewards considered the following:
    • The seriousness of the conduct which Stewards deemed as high range
    • Remorse shown for his actions
    • The need for any penalty to serve as a deterrent both specific and general
    • Mr Downey’s personal circumstances
    • Penalty precedents for similar type maters

    Justin Downey was warned off for a period of 12 months effective 23 August 2023 and was advised of his rights to appeal.
