Electrifying youngster captures time honoured feature
ELECTRIFYING young trotter Plymouth Chubb has joined one of his siblings on a prestigious honour roll.
Triumphant in Ballarat just moments ago, Plymouth Chubb captured the time honoured Tatlow Stake for trainer Peter Manning.
Manning also prepared the freshman’s half-brother, Dublin Chubb to secure the 2019 Tatlow.
Driven by champion horsewoman Kerryn Manning, Dublin Chubb outstayed his rivals after racing in the ‘death seat’ to score in 2:02.5 over 2250 metres.
Producing a similar run, Plymouth Chubb rated 2:01.7 over 2200 metres.
With Kerryn holding the reins, the squaregaiter was given time to settle into his stride from the outside of the second row as Aldebaran Misty led from barrier three.
Forced to race three-wide for the final lap, Plymouth Chubb forged his way to the front leaving the back straight before cruising to a strong eight-metre win from Courage Stride, with Stingofawasp two metres away third.
By premier stallion Majestic Son, Plymouth Chubb stretched his record to eight wins from nine starts for earnings of $74,030.
“He had to do it the hard way, but still got to the line well,” Kerryn said. “He was getting tired on the line, but I hadn’t pulled the plugs either.
“He’s a robust type which keeps finding a way to win.”
To be given an easy few days, Plymouth Chubb will then be primed for Maryborough’s famed Redwood Classic in a fortnight.
