Filly chasing slice of history
TALENTED youngster Jenden Strike will aim for a slice of history at Albion Park on Saturday night.
Engaged in the South East Derby, the Chris Frisby-trained pacer is looking to become the first filly to complete the South East double.
Jenden Strike caused an upset when brilliantly driven by Anthony Frisby to capture last weekend’s South East Oaks.
The pair of Group Twos – formerly-known as the Gold Coast Derby and Oaks – have been conducted simultaneously since 1983.
With Anthony to take the reins once again, Jenden Strike has drawn to settle prominently from barrier three.
The daughter of Betterthancheddar slots into gate two with the removal of the emergency.
“It’s a good draw,” Chris said. “She should be able to get into a good position at the start…she certainly gets her chance from there.”
Second-up from a spell in the Oaks, Jenden Strike will be at her peak when she tackles the ‘boys’ according to Chris.
“She has come through the Oaks in tremendous condition,” Chris said. “The run has tightened her up and she will be right at her top for this.
“She will want to be though given the strength of the field.”
While he has faith in Jenden Strike’s ability, Chris is less than confident she can beat the raging favourite Governor Jujon.
Winner of his last five starts, Governor Jujon is the $1.30 TAB Fixed Odds favourite from barrier five.
Jenden Strike and Fond Memories sit on the second line of betting at $10.
A Grant Dixon-trained stablemate of the favourite, Fond Memories has drawn gate two.
The daughter of Mach Three moves into the pole with the emergency taken out.
“Governor Jujon is probably two classes above the rest,” Chris said. “It is hard to see him being beaten, but we’ll be trying our best to do just that.”
