Will media attention jinx exciting filly?
JUST to clarify, if there is an upset in a certain Group Two during the weekend it’s not National Trotguide’s fault!
It’s not uncommon for trainers to fear or claim the ‘mozz’ has or had been placed on their runner by the media after it is beaten.
In fact, some trainers prefer not to be featured in the press leading into major races.
Astute horsewoman Anna Woodmansey is beginning to wonder if she fits into that category ahead of Saturday night’s South East Oaks at Albion Park.
Woodmansey will contest the classic with exciting filly Pelosi.
Already a dual Group One winner at the venue, Pelosi is the $2.80 favourite which has seen her gain plenty of media attention.
“I have done so many interviews about her and the Oaks,” Woodmansey said. “I hope it hasn’t jinxed her!
“She has been getting a lot of attention.”
Given Pelosi’s record it is easy to understand why the three-year-old is in the spotlight.
Winner of last season’s Australian Pacing Gold Final, Pelosi boasts nine victories and two seconds from 13 starts for earnings of $269,517.
The daughter of American Ideal has won her last two outings in impressive fashion.
To be driven by John Cremin, Pelosi has drawn the outside of the front row – barrier seven – over 2138 metres.
“The draw is not ideal but it is better than the inside,” Woodmansey said. “I didn’t want her drawing one or eight as being on the pegs in the draw doesn’t suit her.
“From there she will come out and get across somewhere. There are others drawn inside her which are too slick out so she won’t be sent forward.
“It’s quite a good field and she’ll need to be at her best, which she is.”
