‘Find’ of the Inters ready to fulfil destiny
IF YOU’RE looking for a ‘destiny’ bet at Club Menangle on Saturday night, Timothy Red shapes as your answer.
Just hours before the fields for the opening Inter Dominion heats were due to be released Timothy Red was “no chance” of gaining a run.
In fact, the son of Muscle Hill wasn’t even ranked high enough to be one of the emergencies.
Yet to co-trainer Joe Rando’s shock, as destiny would have it, Timothy Red gained a berth in the prestigious Championship.
Now the trotter is one of the leading chances!
“We actually only nominated him as a ‘why not’ scenario in the first place,” Rando said. “He had a National Rating of 56 points and had only had 14 starts before the series started.
“I spoke to Rob (Davis, owner) and suggested we nominate him because numbers always drop off, and with Covid around, who knew what horses would or wouldn’t come for the series.
“On the morning the fields were due to be released he was ranked in the high 30’s or low 40’s and no chance of getting anywhere near the top 24 for the heats.
“Then all of a sudden he’s drawn two in the first heat.”
Clearly the ‘find’ of the series, Timothy Red was triumphant during the first two rounds before a luckless sixth on the third night.
A $201 TAB Fixed Odds outsider to win the Final before the first heat, Timothy Red tightened into $5.50 ahead of the draw for the $150,000 decider.
After receiving barrier 14 – outside of the back line – Timothy Red has drifted to $11.
“He’s exceeded all our expectations,” said Rando, who co-trains with his wife, Mary.
“The draw isn’t the best, but he’s still in with a chance.
“I’m not saying he will win it, but he certainly can with the right run.”
