Mutiny within troubled club committee

IT’S not exactly mutiny on the high seas, but cracks are beginning to show within the South Australia Harness Racing Club’s ‘officers’.

As the organisation continues to struggle with ever-growing debt, and a developer who is yet to make a long overdue payment for the purchase of club land, factions within the committee are reported to be at loggerheads.

Eight people form the club committee, with the group said to be split in pairs of four.

Having found itself in millions of dollars debt, the club committee elected to sell a portion of its unused land to raise money.

As such, a section was sold to a developer with the proceeds to help reduce a sizable portion of the club’s substantial deficit.

The deadline for the money to be received was December 2018, but that passed without the funds arriving.

Numerous adjusted deadlines have also gone by the wayside, with the distinct possibility the club will be without the money and land a harsh reality.

According to club President Ann Mowday’s latest payment schedule declared earlier this month, the money is due next week.

As for the unrest within, committeeman Chris Haskett has been approaching members asking them to sign a petition to place the club in administration.

When asked about his action Haskett offered a standard “no comment” as to what the petition was in relation to.

Haskett also supplied “no comment” when asked if the petition existed despite informing him several people who signed the form have notified www.nationaltrotguide.com.au

It’s believed the latest dispute within the “officers’ mess” escalated after one group of four tabled a motion to borrow more money reported to be within the vicinity of $2million.

Haskett’s group is reported to be on side with Mowday.

While administration is the first motion proposed it has been reported the second motion is to dissolve the committee and have a new squad of eight elected.

Numerous phones calls to Mowday went answered with no messages returned.
