Night of feature race dominance
PREMIER trainer Grant Dixon dominated last night’s Albion Park card.
Along with capturing three of the four Qbred Triad Finals, Dixon’s runners also filled a quinella, trifecta and were the first six across the finish in one of the features.
“It was a good night for the stable,” Dixon said. “I felt like we had a few strong chances in and they performed up to expectations.
“In the mares’ Final I particularly felt they only had each other to beat and that’s the way it worked out.”
One of seven Dixon-prepared starters in the four-year-old field, Eternal Promise completed a five-metre win with Adam Sanderson holding the reins.
As the winner rated 1:57.5 over 2138 metres, her stablemates Goddess Jujon, Cherrys The Best, Special Reserve, Miss Moneybags and Saint Kilda Beach were the next five over the line.
Ark Me was the odd one out for the team, finishing tenth as a $151 rank outsider.
“They are all in good form and seemed to have the race among themselves,” Dixon said. “That was Eternal Promise’s last run for the stable.
“She was one of 10 I was training for Shannon Price who is starting back up so they all left this morning.”
Dixon then drove Fond Memories to glory in the three-year-old decided as her stablemate True Stepper, driven by Dixon’s wife Trista, was a metre away second.
Jiggle And Jive was third in 1:57.3 over 2138 metres.
“I felt Fond Memories was a good hope but I still rate Jiggle And Jive is best Qbred up here,” Dixon said.
“I think she had an interrupted prep and that, along with her bad draw, helped us get the win.”
To be given an easy week, the daughter of Mach Three will then be aimed at the various club Oaks in coming months.
Dixon has a similar plan for colts’ and geldings’ winner Governor Jujon, which will be set for the corresponding Derbys.
Also driven by Dixon, Governor Jujon led home a stable trifecta as Blackjack Bart and Another Statement filled the placings.
Rating 1:56.3 over 2138 metres, the colt took his record to 12 wins and three second from 17 starts for earnings of $248,282.
“He’ll go in the Redcliffe Sales series next,” Dixon said. “He won the Final at two and hopefully he can do it again this season.
“After that I’ll set him for the local Derbys.”
Dixon rounded out his night when Captains Pick led throughout for an easy win in 1:57.2 over 1660 metres.
“He won really well,” Dixon said. “I’ll give him a week off now then get him ready for Sires’ in late July.”
